KCCA NC tops netball league table as first round ends

The Uganda netball super league cup record holders National Insurance Corporation Netball Club finished the first round fixture with a hard fighting win against Uganda Prisons Netball Club on Wednesday at Kamwokya Community Sports Center.

National Insurance Corporation netball club had to fight tooth and nail to beat Prisons Netball Club 54-50 to finish the first round in the second position with four points behind table leaders, KCCA Netball Club who finished first round with no any loss.

Both teams, NIC and Prisons stepped on court with each proving a point that they are better but the first quarter ended 14-12 in favor of NIC netball club and also at half time with 27-22.

Mugisha Ali charges, yesterday were so aggressive from the first quarter, they only left it in the last quarter after developing a would be complacency that they scored less, 12 against the 16 Prisons scored.

Prisons netball team made a number of errors especially in the third quarter with the midfield not that good and Namulumba Kango not sharp enough to lift her side scoring 43.

Mugisha who was full of joy said that his team showed determination and their individual brilliance which they didn’t show against KCCA and Weyonje matches.

“The girls won the game for themselves, showed class, they used their individual brilliance and talent to win this game, the qualities they didn’t show against KCCA and Weyonje,” said Mugisha.

Uganda Prisons netball team head coach, Imelda Nyongesa failed to tell what happened to her players based on the performance they displayed.

“The game was ours, we started at a slow pace and the girls were to casual, I don’t know what happened to them, I can’t even tell failed to lift their bodies and our opponents built on that, the girls only woke up in the last quarter but we’re only closing the gap,” Said Nyongesa.

In other results, the Uganda netball super league table leaders, KCCA winded up first round beating Uganda Police NC 48-45 topping the table with 22 points, four above second placed NIC and Prisons who finished in third position, While Luweero Netball team finished first round jumping out of the relegation zone with two wins on the last day beating Africa Renewal University 46-44 and 48-31 against Posta netball team.

Meanwhile, Uganda Prisons netball team player, Christine Namulumba leads the league top scorer chart with 430 goals followed by National Insurance Corporation (NIC) netball club player Seera Zam with 384.
