Ministry of health want Kisoro municipal driver fired for smuggling goods from DRC

Kisoro -.The Ministry of Health has directed the Kisoro municipal Town Clerk, Haruna Kamba to relieve Habumugisha Hosea of his duties as municipal driver due to his recent involvement in smuggling Bitenge  apparel.

The ministry also wants the said driver interdicted, and charged  when arrested.

Habumugisha who is still on the run was intercepted on 26th February in Kabale municipality driving the Kisoro municipality surveillance pick-up donated by the Ministry of Health full of Bitenge allegedly smuggled from the DRC.

Speaking to dailypaper from in his office on Wednesday, Kamba said that the Ministry of Health’s directive of taking such a disciplinary action against Habumugisha could mean that investigations into the matter have been finalised.

Kamba noted that the ministry also directed him to make a formal report about the vehicle, an assignment he has completed.

He however decried the fact that responsible authorities dealing with investigations have not yet shared any report of their findings.

According to Kamba,  Habumugisha has on several occasions been accused by municipal councilors of misusing the vehicle, no evidence had been gathered to ascertain their claims until he was intercepted in Kabale.

He said that he will soon constitute a committee to internally investigate more about the incident, where he will be required to defend himself.

He added that the findings by the committee may lead to his permanent dismissal from his job if found to be involved in such gross misconduct.

Meanwhile, the Town Clerk says that the municipality’s service delivery has crippled since their lone vehicle was impounded. He earlier travelled to Kampala to engage URA so that the vehicle can be released.
