Bukedea Comprehensive School newly constructed Semi-Olympic Pool

With just one week and four days remaining before schools start arriving for the FEASSA Games 2024, excitement is building in Uganda. This year’s hosts, Bukedea Comprehensive School and Amus College School, are finalizing preparations to welcome participants from across the region.

A major highlight of this year’s games is the newly constructed semi-Olympic swimming pool at Bukedea Comprehensive School, which complies with World Aquatics (formerly FINA) standards
State-of-the-Art Swimming Facility, The new pool, designed for 25-meter competitions, boasts the following features, Minimum Depth: 1.35 meters, extending from 1.0 meter to at least 6.0 meters from the end wall and Diving Boards: To be installed this week, providing elevated platforms for recreational and competitive divers.

In an interview with Wallnetnews on Sunday, August 4th, 2024, Prof. Jonas Gumisiriza, Director of Bukedea Comprehensive School, expressed pride in the progress made:
“We are at 98% completion for the swimming pool and other infrastructure. Bukedea Comprehensive School and Amus College School are more than ready to welcome the schools. This year’s competition will be one for the records. It will be highly competitive and marks the first time joint private schools host the largest schools’ competition in the CECAFA region.”

Prof. Gumisiriza highlighted the unique aspects of this year’s FEASSA Games,  For the first time, schools will enjoy cultural nights every evening, celebrating the diverse heritage of the participating regions, Schools will have the opportunity to tour historical sites in the area and The local business community is eager to support their schools, enhancing the event’s atmosphere and engagement.

Prof. Gumisiriza expressed optimism about Bukedea Comprehensive School’s performance, “Our goal is to win trophies, especially in volleyball for both boys and girls, to make history as the first hosting school to win a FEASSA trophy. While soccer will be highly competitive, with strong contenders like St. Mary’s Kitende and Amus College School, we have faith in our team. However, we acknowledge that the competition will be tough, and it will largely depend on the draws on Tuesday, August 13th, 2024.”

Prof. Gumisiriza called upon fans to come out in large numbers to support their schools, thanking the hosting schools’ Executive Directors, Rt. Hon. Speaker Anita Anne Among Magogo and Hon. Patrick Isiagi, for their dedication to sports and making this event possible.

The FEASSA Games 2024 are set to be a landmark event for the Teso zone and Uganda at large. With top-tier facilities, enthusiastic community support, and high expectations, Bukedea Comprehensive School and Amus College School are poised to host a memorable and competitive tournament. As schools prepare to arrive, the stage is set for a historic and culturally rich sporting event.
