Busoga Kingdom unveils Shs500m MTN Busoga masaza cup sponsorship

Busoga Kingdom has revealed that this year’s sponsorship package for the MTN Busoga Masaza cup 2023 is worth sh500m.

The revelation was made by Busoga Kingdom’s second deputy Prime Minister Owek. Alhaj Osman Ahmed Noor while at the launch of the 6th edition of the MTN Busoga Masaza cup football tournament, held at the Kingdom headquarters in Jinja City on August 5th, 2023. 

Speaking alongside sponsor’s representatives from the different partners; MTN Uganda (Jimmy Isaraza the regional business manager of Eastern region) and Haojue Uganda Motorcycle Company (Edward Kayiwa), organizing committee chairman Isa Magoola and his team as well as other dignitaries from Busoga Kingdom, Alhaj Osman said the sponsorship is both in cash and in kind.

He also revealed that the Kyabazinga of Busoga William Gabula Nadiope IV will kick-off this year’s tournament during the official opening game that will be played on August 20th, 2023 between Bunhole Bunanumba and last year’s edition championship, Bukooli Namayingo at Bwondha playground in Mayuge district.

Osman thanked main sponsor MTN Uganda and new Co-sponsor Haojue Uganda Motorcycle Company for the financial support, injected in organizing MTN Busoga Masazza Cup and urged people to support services of MTN and also buy products manufactured at Haojue.  

While launching the tournament, Alhaj Osman was also accompanied by Busoga Kingdom’s Minister for Sports Amin Bbosa and his deputy Daniel Musota.

“I thank MTN who have moved this journey with us and who have been sponsoring this tournament for all the years. I also welcome our new sponsors, Haojue Uganda Motorcycle Company,” Alhaj said.

Alhaj Osman thanked team managers and players from various chiefdoms for exhibiting talent which made the last edition (5th edition) to be the best editions in the Country.   

He revealed that plans are underway to organize a Masaza netball tournament in 2024.

MTN’s Regional Business Manager, Jimmy Isaraza said the MTN Busoga Masaza cup has become a true symbol of unity, embodying the spirit of togetherness among the people of Busoga adding that the MTN Busoga Masaza cup tournament aligns with their brand theme “Together we are Unstoppable.”

Edward Kayiwa, the marketing manager at Haojue Uganda, said sh100m was delivered as sponsorship of the tournament adding that the top scorer will receive a brand new Haojue 125cc motorcycle worth sh5m.

Kayiwa handed over 42 balls to ObwaKyabazinga Bwa Busoga who later distributed them among the chiefdom team managers.

Busoga Kingdom’s Sports Minister, Amin Bbosa, said that 14 teams will participate in the tournament and the winner will receive a cash prize of sh12 million, the second will get sh8 million, the third sh6 million and the fourth sh4 million.

Bbosa said cautioned that people who have played in the Big League and Super leagues will not be allowed to play in the Masaza teams.

He further requested MPs to have attachment to the teams from their chiefdoms and support them financially.

Teams to compete in the tournament include Kigulu, Bulamoji, Bukono, Bugweri, Bukooli Namayingo, Budiope, Bunha, Bunhole Bunanumba, Butembe, Bukooli Bugiri, Buzaya, Bugabula, Busiki and Luuka.
